ANETTE SANDVIG

What field are you studying and why?

I am about to begin my fifth and final year studying Industrial Economics at NTNU. My major is in computer science with a special emphasis on AI. I’ve always been fascinated by the latent insight that can be extracted from data. This, combined with the learning opportunities that arise from the intersection of fields like economics, classical math and engineering, data science and human resource management, made Industrial Economics seem like the perfect fit for me.

Why did you apply for an internship at Solution Seeker?

What initially impressed me about Solution Seeker was how cutting edge their methodologies and solutions were for such a small company. For a team of only about twenty employees, the degree of expertise per head is really impressive. What do you hope to learn and achieve during this internship?

I hope to gain a more holistic understanding of how data can be utilized and visualized for decision making in a real business context. Additionally, I think the impact of intuitive and user-friendly presentation of information is very underrated, and I look forward to exploring this more. As the task I am working on is related in large part to the presentation of data, I hope to make visualizations with an interactive approach that provide the company with more insight, more effectively.

What do you like best about working at Solution Seeker so far?

I really like how easy it is to get my very specific questions answered by the office expert on that subject. The knowledge is so concentrated in few people, which makes knowledge sharing simple. It also helps that everyone is so nice and forthcoming.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be passionate about my work so that I am always driven by internal motivation. What that entails I have no idea yet.

SJUR WOLD

What field are you studying and why?

I just finished my fourth year at Industrial Economics and Technology Management at NTNU, specializing in artificial intelligence and optimization. I chose this field of study due to a wish of combining working with science related courses, thereby putting myself in a position where I’m able to work closely with other people. My decision to specialize within computer science was rather coincidental; when I first started at NTNU I had no experience with the field, so the decision was based on nothing more than a hunch. The decision turned out to be a good one, as I quickly gained interest in the technical subjects. Due to my interest in mathematics, it was an easy decision to write my master thesis within optimization. I also feel like this is a field that complements AI in a natural way.

Why did you apply for an internship at Solution Seeker?

I first heard of Solution Seeker through friends, and I was told it was a company consisting of people with a genuine interest in technology and its possibilities, something that seemed appealing to me. During the interview process this impression was strengthened, and I also got to witness how much they value their company culture, another factor that is important to me.

What do you hope to learn and achieve during this internship?

During my time at Solution Seeker, I hope to broaden my technical knowledge, and to get an impression of what it is like to develop cutting-edge solutions within a big industry. I hope that I can contribute to a product that can be brought to production in the future and bring value to Solution Seeker’s customers.

What do you like best about working at Solution Seeker so far?

The freedom and the willingness to help. As a summer intern you are given a project with somewhat defined tasks, but how you and your team choose to work together and solve the problem is entirely up to you. Even though there’s a lot of freedom, the employees are eager to help you out as soon as you have a question, and no questions are too big or too small.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

As long as I look forward to going to work every day, it’s not that important to me what I do.
